About the Georgetown Ministerial Alliance

Vision/Purpose Statement: The Georgetown Ministerial Alliance is an association of local religious leaders that support one another in personal ministry through prayer, fellowship, orientation and sharing resources; that serves the community by providing trans-denominational worship services; and that supports the ministries of religious, non-profit and service-based groups within the Georgetown community.

Monthly Meetings: Those who serve the community are welcome to attend our monthly luncheon meetings at the St. David’s Georgetown Hospital, third floor conference room from 11-12:30 on the second Wednesday of each month. After a time of sharing, prayer, and GMA business, we have lunch (compliments of the hospital) and participate in an issue forum.

GMA Website www.georgetownministerialalliance.org provides a means for individuals, churches and organizations to better communicate and serve the community together. We encourage churches and service organizations to submit information about their ministries.

Church of the Month: GMA through its member churches serves transients or those who are traveling through our community who need help. After Katrina, GMA assisted 14 families with long term care.

Community Thanksgiving Service: Scheduled for the Monday prior to Thanksgiving, this service involves various churches, pastors and organizations. In 2007, GMA co-sponsored the service with the Georgetown Fellowship of Churches.

Community Thanksgiving Feast: The Ministerial Alliance sponsors a Thanksgiving Celebration Dinner, now in its seventh year, to be provided at no cost to those who desire meals delivered to their homes or served at a downtown church (First United Methodist Church in 2007) on Thanksgiving Day. Meals on Wheels recipients are among those who receive delivered meals and a visit. Contact Youth Minister Paul Partlow at the Georgetown Church of Christ 863-3071 for information about the 2008 meal or visit our website www.georgetownministerialalliance.org

Easter Cross Project: GMA encourages individuals and churches to display white cross yard signs from Palm Sunday through Easter as a sign of Christian unity in the Georgetown Community. Signs are $4 each available from Bruce Fogerty eastercross.org. Special arrangements can be made by churches so that Sun City residents may display the sign ( contact Janette Donaldson sgpc@verizon.net).

National Day of Prayer: GMA works with this national and community event in early May.

VOAD: GMA has joined with the Williamson County VOAD [Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster] Organization to better serve Georgetown in times of crisis in our community. VOAD came about quite naturally in one sense as a response to the challenges to meet the needs of persons overtaken by disaster. Numerous organizations, a few very large ones and many small ones, served disaster victims in various ways pretty much independent of one another but VOAD helps bring these groups together. For more information on NVOAD, go on-line to www.nvoad.org.
